PRIZES: FEATURE IN SXSW ISSUE + RECORDING SOFTWARE

coverOnce again, the big prize for the Year End Poll winners is to be featured on our upcoming SXSW issue (see last year's edition on the left, read it in pdf HERE), and this year we'll also have a bundle of recording software (to be announced soon).

HOW IT WORKS
The process to determine these lists is rather complicated - if you want to try and get your head around it, be our guest and go HERE. But if all you are interested in is to be part of it and get some exposure, then read on.

The first phase of this poll allows ANY BAND OR SOLO ARTIST based in one of the scenes we cover to submit their music for a minimum of 3 spots in the pool of the "Best of" your city nominees. This phase starts right NOW!

Submit your music to The Deli's Local Scene Year End Polls
HERE
Deadline: 12.09.2013

A team of Deli writers will choose a minimum of 3 artists that will be added to the pool of nominees for the next phases of the poll. The bands selected  will be announced in early 2014.

Please spread the word about this and good luck!

Seen at CMJ: Baby Alpaca.

You might have heard this already a couple of times, but one of the secrets to improvement and - eventually (maybe) - success, is keeping at it, for a very long time. We booked Chris Kittrell's brainchild Baby Alpaca for one of our 2010 CMJ shows - he was playing solo at the time - and it was great to see him with a full band, improved confidence and a great new EP at Pianos on CMJ Wednesday. With their charmingly dark melodies, tasteful arrangements, and a voice to fall for, Baby Alpaca come across as some kind of new Roxy Music from the "Avalon" years, and earn extra points for being managed by an ex (awesome) Deli intern - we weren't aware of it when we started to write this blurb.Check out the video for "Sea of Dreams" here, and listen to preview single "Wild Child" below.

Discovered at CMJ: Prince Rupert's Drops

When I think of music from the sixties, I think of three main genres: folk, psychedelic, and hard rock (hard rock in its original meaning). Of course a lot of bands blurred those genres and they were not so easily definable; in fact, that’s exactly what Prince Rupert’s Drops did at Union Pool on CMJ Friday, in front of a long-haired, heady crowd that danced and jammed along to their insanely unpredictable, Barrettesque psychedelic songs. The band has a really jam band feel as well, and it's definitely the kind of act you’d have to see live to experience properly. - Read more about John's CMJ Music Marathon here.

Discovered at CMJ: Lodro - Live at Death By Audio on 10.25

Visceral yet elegant, raw yet artistically crafted, Lodro takes its time to develop things. In a way, they are a contradiction, and contradictions often make for great music. You'll have the opportunity to see them live at Death By Audio this Friday October 25. In the meantime, here's a video for you. - John McGovern
