The Return of Plastic Little at Underground Arts April 26

Funtimes, Philly hip-hop crew Plastic Little are re-emerging tonight at Underground Arts, turning the hands of time back for myspacing mid-aughts gallery dwellers. The group, originally consisting of Jayson Musson (Hennessy Youngman, PackofRats), Kurt Hunte (No Body's Child), Si Young Lee (DJ Si Young), Michael Stern (SQUID), and Jon Folmar (Jon Thousand), last performed in 2010 at Kung Fu Necktie, and has most recently garnered public attention through controversy over an unauthorized sample from their track "Miller Time" (below) in Bauer's 2012 viral sensation "Harlem Shake." All was eventually smoothed over after Diplo helped to resolve things for his Mad Decent artist, with an agreed upon compensation deal. Plastic Little will be headlining the Red Bull Sound Select event (which you can register to get a reduced $3 admission HERE), being curated by Jump Philly. They'll also be joined by no strangers to the art gallery music scene Sweatheart and retro psych-pop purveyors Needle Points with Gun$ Garcia spinning throughout the evening. Undeground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - H.M. Kauffman

New Music Video: "Crummy Summer" - Sweatheart

Here's a bootylicious new music video from Sweatheart for their summertime jam "Crummy Summer." The track will appear on their upcoming album Sittin Pretty, which will be released on August 13 via Free Energy Records. The video was directed by Thom Lessner, and you'll be able to catch the outrageous crew performing live on Thursday, September 19 at Johnny Brenda's. Thanks to Philebrity for bringing to our attention.

Tuesday Tune-Out w/Sweatheart at PhilaMOCA April 2

It’s Tuesday and the beginning of a new month so you’ll be finding a new curator for Tuesday Tune-Out at PhilaMOCA. Eric Bresler, the series’ founder and PhilaMOCA’s Creative Director, will be taking over the duties for the first time. Headlining tonight will be the always outrageous Sweatheart, who are performing select songs from this evening’s featured movie, which is “one of the greatest of all ‘80s teen films.” Nicee! (BTW: Bresler, who is a truly knowledgeable and obsessed film enthusiast, is also the founder of Cinedelphia, and he’ll be bringing us the inaugural Cinedelphia Film Festival this month, which is a 24-day celebration of Philly-related cinema. You can check out the festival’s schedule and purchase tickets for its unique events HERE!) PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $5, All Ages - Q.D. Tran

Give Into the Temptaion w/Sweatheart at PhilaMOCA Nov. 1

Use eye protection; you might contract something while watching Sweatheart's set tonight at PhilaMOCA. As you give into the band's visual temptation, you'll be audibly struck by their rock assault time-warp, and won't be able to control yourself from gyrating to their boppin' riffs and tongue-in-cheek lyrics. The fivesome will be delivering a more personal set, since their last appearance was opening for the "I Believe In A Thing Called Love"-rockers The Darkness at Terminal 5 in NYC. Joining Sweatheart will be Philly's D.V. NIKT, with its live instrumental and spoken word that addresses radical historical topics in media and politics, and Australian dark-wave duo WAZU, whose "apop-calyptic" sound is currently making its home in the Big Apple. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $7-10 donation, All Ages - Brandi Lukas
