Artist of the Month: Swansea

At the conclusion of our most recent Artist of the Month Poll I found myself completely transfixed watching a video from the enchanting victor, Swansea, for their track “No Blame”. The camera circles through a beautiful building, stopping upon the three band member playing a song that is simultaneously eerie and comforting with a unique instrumentation. These qualities hold true throughout their catalog of compositions as endearing vocals outline songs that are equal parts novel and familiar. I can keep describing their entrancing style to you, but a unique sound is worth thousands of words and you have the luxury of clicking the banner at the top of the site to listen for yourself. Congratulations to the Deli Portland's new Artist of the Month, Swansea, we’re excited to share your music! -Ben Toledo

Eidolons // Cataldo // Bed // 3.23.14

Curated by local all-star Theo Craig, this week’s Rontoms Sundays Session is simply a must catch event. Eidolons headline the show with their quiet, fluttering vocals, hard hitting drums and jazzy, progressive rock. Seattle’s Cataldo boasts smooth pop and catchy songwriting. Opening the night is Portland's new low-fi/grunge/pop band Bed, who is also one of the bands in our current Artist of the Month Poll (tomorrow, 3/22, is the last day to vote for Bed, Daydream Machine, or Swansea in our Poll here). Bed will be releasing their single, Brother, and it's accompanying music video at the show. You’ll sure feel weird if you miss out.

The show is free and starts at 8:30pm. - Chandler Strutz

Party Boyz Presentz: Ladiez Night

Hey Ladieeeez!

Along with She Shreds Magazine and Kill Rock Stars, Portland's Party Boyz have curated an event at Mississippi Studios to celebrate the guitar hoarding, keyboard slinging, howling vocals of Portland's fairer gender. Wait, fairer? Whatever, The Party Boyz turn gender on it's head. The pod-casting duo are actually two best girl-friends, Rachel Milbauer and Elizabeth Elder, who share laughs with all the local bands for an audience to hear.

They are also putting together shows with a cause; part of ticket sales from Ladiez Night will assist musical non-profit Rock'n'Roll Camp For Girls. Speaking of Rock'n'Roll, this show is a fresh debut for Sallie Ford, who moved on from the boys at The Sound Outside to start a new all-girl band solely under her moniker. The local ladies that have joined her include members of Siren & The Sea, Viva Voce, and Point Juncture, WA. There will new songs to look forward to, and knowing Sallie, it's bound to get a little rowdy.

The line-up includes dream-pop outfit Swansea, the intriguing Luz Elena Mendoza (Y La Bamba,Tiburones), and a founding female of indie-rock, Rebecca Gates. It's a celebration of the bad-ass, empowered women making music in PDX. Gurlz, boyz, ladiez and dudez - come one, come all. - Brandy Crowe
