St. James & The Apostles

St. James & The Apostles Record Release Show at Ortlieb's Oct. 21

Psychedelic blues juggernauts St. James & The Apostles are celebrating their third release, White Devil, and good Lord, it's a gritty, nasty, one helluva good time, like dental floss for your soul. The powerhouse trio of Jamie Mahon, Mike Kiker, and Jeff Castner teamed up with Philly legend Joe Nicolo to produce the record. The results are simply divine. Come join the congregation tonight at Ortlieb's to celebrate the birth of White Devil! Also joining in on the ceremony are Brooklyn's The End Men and Amsterdam duo The Shady Greys. Ortlieb's, 847 N. 3rd St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Keith Kelley

A Halloween Party Benefit for the Upcoming Documentary "The Resurrection of Uncle Eddie" at Underground Arts Oct. 29

You can start your Halloween celebration early tonight at Underground Arts with a benefit hosted by Woodshop Films. The rad production collective will be accepting donations and raising backing for their upcoming documentary The Resurrection of Uncle Eddie. Providing the soundtrack for the event will be primal heavy-psych outfit Ecstatic Vision, metal-tinged rockers JJL, the psychedelic blues/soul of St. James & The Apostles, and medieval psych rockers Meddlesome Meddlesome Meddlesome Bells. Though we feel like the majority of attendees might be clad in denim, certainly no one will mind if you get your freak on this evening. And there will be prizes for best costumes! Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 7pm, $15, 21+ - Alexis V.

St. James & The Apostles Record Release Show at Ortlieb's Oct. 10

Fast-paced, acid-tinged rockers St. James & The Apostles have been known to add plenty rhythm and blues swagger and biblical psych to their music through their heart-thumping drums, melodious keyboards, stoner guitar riffs, and gang vocals. But the trio takes that combination to the extreme with their latest album Via Dolorosa, especially when you add in guest backing vocals by the sultry and soulful Ang Bocca of Ang & the Damn Band. The wholly unholies celebrate their latest release tonight at Ortleib's, where they’ll be selling 50 special signed and numbered white vinyl copies and jamming with a number of surprise special guests. The show will be opened by the dark, twisted rockabilly piano musings of Mr. Unloved. Ortleib's Lounge, 847 N 3rd St., 9pm, $10, 21+ - Bill McThrill

St. James & The Apostles Close Out Month-long Residency at Ortlieb's April 30

The trio of St. James & The Apostles close out their month-long Wednesday night residency at Ortlieb’s this evening. The group takes an all-out blood, sweat, and tears approach to each performance, playing an inspired gritty blend of soulful blues-rock with psychedelic accents. The mix of smooth grooves, propelling organ, raunchy guitar licks and earnest, pulled-from-the-gut vocals are a concoction that seems to catch fire on stage. Ortlieb’s, 847 N.
