Recently coming off of a North Eastern tour in support of their full length album, Mexico, Mirror Travel is keeping the momentum going with the release of their video for ‘Stoner’. Directed by Liz Pearlman, bursts of kaleidoscopic color flash amidst grungy, black and white imagery, perfectly symbolizing the lo-fi meets garage rock meets dreamy shoegaze tone of the album. Imagine the lovechild of Best Coast and Sleater-Kinney (and who wouldn’t want to imagine that?!). Formerly known as Follow That Bird, the four year old three piece band has been picked up by Austin label Modern Outsider and is gearing up for a 101x Homegrown Live show on December 21st. --Written by Jodi Lang

New Year's Eve?  Plans?

Perennial local favorites The Sour Notes are throwing another one of their epic New Years Eve parties.  And Yeah, you're invited to hang out with them, Deep Time, Hundred Visions, Pompeii, Love Inks, The Laughing, and Mirror Travel for a night of fun and frolic at Cheer Up Charlie's.  Cool.

Meanwhile, over at Frontier Bar, Slacker Magazine is throwing a Blacklight Party with Ringo Deathstarr, JAPANTHER, The Boxing Lesson, Megafauna, Residual Kid, Mighty Mountain (Formerly PYRAMID), and The Sun Machine (Formerly THE SOUL PILOTS).

Stubb's is bringing in the New Year with T-Bird and the Breaks + Henry + The Invisibles.

The Beauty Ballroom is hosting Grupo Fantasma and Foot Patrol.

Neon Indian is headlining at The Mohawk, warmed up by Silent Diane and S U R V I V E.

And ND's NYE event includes Not In The Face, The Couch, The Sideshow Tragedy, and AC / ND.

Well, you have all day to decide.  And to get you prepped, mentally and emotionally, for that decision, Zooey and Joey are here for you.

Bands often reflect their environment. So far, Austin has been defined very heavily by its Psychedelic garage rock scene, but this has never completely captured the Texan Capitol. Austin’s old college-town feel still lingers here, despite the immensely huge and annoying immigration of people from L.A., NYC, and, well, everywhere (except Baltimore. Those guys are staying put it seems. What’s Baltimore doing right I wonder?), and no band seems to be filling that void.

Mirror Travel (formerly Follow That Bird) is coming straight out of that old Austin ethos. The music is simultaneously relaxing and powerful, giving us an intelligent spin on indie rock. Lauren Green’s ethereal vocal melodies are matched perfectly with the solid rhythm section. Mirror Travel seems to always know where a song should go.
