Pal Around With a Blend of Experimental Sounds 6.13

June 13 - This Friday, underground Portland's favorite pshychedelic house of DIY, PALS Clubhouse, will host a night of experimental rock 'n roll worthy of popping those last few mushroom caps you've been holding onto for the right time. Headlining the night, electronic math rock trio Bearcubbin'! are sure to leave you with visual trails and echoes of looping guitar. Another power-trio, all the way out from Austin, Megafauna are on tour in support of their new album, Maximalist, with a more straight forward rock yet at times trippy feel. The Tamed West open the night, and although they currently only have one recorded track available for listening, they are sure to become a new favorite in Portland and beyond sooner than one may think. You'll be psyched you caught them for free when they were still opening shows.

Young Tongue (formerly The Baker Family) make fresh imprint with "Cat Calls"

It isn't easy for a band to change monikers without facing the risk of losing any, if not all buzz their previous handle may have generated.  Not so, for indie pop group Young Tongue, formally The Baker Family. With the release of a digital EP "Cat Calls" the group seems to have made a solid push for relevance to an audience that may have previously dismissed them as yet another Americana family band, to which they couldn't be further from.  They are expected to release a full length LP this summer but for now we'll have to settle for the 4 track EP, full of rich percussion and dreamy omnichord backdrops. Saturday at Red 7, Young Tongue opens for UME and Megafauna. - Andy Bianculli

Megafauna's Roaring New Album

Megafauna have been busy lately gaining speed. They've had a long string dynamic live shows, and the trio’s forthcoming album, Maximalist, has the right amount of grit and whip-quick guitar work from front woman Dani Neff to fill the slick 37-minute run time to the brim. Want a preview? Check out the album’s dynamic first single, “Haunted Factory”. I don't see Megafauna slowing down anytime soon, and I hope to God they won't.
You can get Maximalist on the 15th, but the album’s official release is part of the bill for the 101X Homegrown Live show, April 19th at The Mohawk. The all-ages event will serve as a benefit show for SXSW Cares and will also feature UME, Black Books, and Young Tongue. –Written by Marie Meyers

Megafauna Prepares to Melt Faces at Austin Deli’s Well-Being for Women Showcase Tomorrow Night @ Spiderhouse Ballroom

The Austin music scene just wouldn’t be the same without the quirky, whimsical, experimental, melt your face off rock and roll trio, Megafauna. Nobody can forget the first time they’ve seen them. Nobody can forget the last. The band is tight, the songs are awesomely weird, but it’s Dani Neff, the Sultana of Shred, that leaves audiences happily bewildered and wide-eyed, mouths agape and thirsting for more.

Constantly touring, pumping out records, and playing local shows, it’s difficult to understand why we aren’t seeing Megafauna on the covers of Rolling Stone and Spin magazines. But fans are confident that they are heading straight in that direction. See some sick female shredding tomorrow at Spiderhouse Ballroom for the Well-Being for Women Showcase, so that you can say you saw Dani before she’s nationally referred to as the next Lita Ford or Joan Jett. – Written by Jodi Lang
