The Scottish Rite Theatre couldn't have been a more perfect setting for Borrisokane's release of Murdering Teeth this Friday. The stage was an awe to behold with cutout trees of many greens surrounding the bands. Complimentary masquerade masks are amongst the other imaginative details that confettied the night. It was like a scene right out of Peter Pan, contrasting the sheer elegance of Wendy's world with the wonder of Peter's, making you feel like Wendy holding tight to Peter's hand as he shows you Never Never Land. You're flying one minute and missing mommy the next. It's simply beautiful. 

With each song, Murdering Teeth holds a fantasy world of its very own bringing listeners to a new consciousness. I loved the breathy opening in 'Amelia Fucking Earhart' that lead to escalating instrumentals and a consuming sense of urgency. My other favorite was the glittering keyboard of 'Victoria Please' that flew me through a nebula of sound and clouds of emotional infinity.  Check it out for yourself and pick up a copy of Borrisokane's new EP today! -- Written by Katy Glass

They say all good things must come to an end.  (We don't really believe that, but for the sake of putting a metaphysical slant to a post, we'll claim allegiance.)  And, sorry to say, Free Week is no exception.  Waah.

But instead of bawling, let's go out with a BANG.  For tonight, we recommend going Holy Mountain or Red 7 -

Zorch, The Boxing Lesson, Boyfrndz, Tiger Waves, and Residual Kid will be doing the free thing at Holy Mountain tonight. 

And right next door at Red 7, on the inside you can find Troller, Marriage, The Sour Notes, Wet Lungs, and Spray Paint; whilest the outside stage will be taken over by White Walls, Cheap Curls, The Well, and Holy Wave.  

Saturday, we'd go:

The Mohawk has a huge going-out-of-Free-Week show with the outside stage hosting Silent Diane, FEATHERS, BOAN, and Rare Species.  Inside, we'll have The Sour Notes, The Couch, Shivery Shakes, Letting Up Despite Great Faults, and The Plastic Habit.

And Red 7 will host TV Torso, Oh No Oh My, Hundred Visions, and Tiger Waves. 

Last and definitely not least, you could scoot over to Club DeVille and catch Oh Look Out, Friday Avenue, (one of our best of 2012) Borrisokane, Knifight, and Hydra Melody on the outside stage, whilest inside you can see Pop Pistol and Migrant Kids.

This is going to be the longest list of this whole series of announcements. On Thursday, we're once again taking over both floors of The Delancey with upstairs, a line-up of electro up-and-comers from all sides of the spectrum and downstairs, some creative pop gems fitting under the Avant Pop label, for a total of.. NINETEEN acts! So enough chit-chat, let's get to the list, because that is sure going to take up enough space.

Opening the (free!) upstairs show, Thomas Simon's ghostly mixes, followed by the bizarre folk-tronic experiments of Max Horwich's Sewing Machines, Cultfever's chaotic outputs and Railbird's more intimate creations. Next up, we've got three out-of-towners, i.e SF's Maus Haus, Philly's electro/hip hop artist Lushlife, and finally, Anomie Belle, from Seattle, co-headlining the show with NYC's own Dynasty Electric. Then, taking it to the later hours of the evening, Ducky, and Drop Electric (coming from DC).

Downstairs, our two headliners will be Dinosaur Feathers (top picture) and Wildlife Control, who both released this year a delicious new album, second for the former and a first for the latter. We've also got, on this stage, three acts coming from Los Angeles: openers American Royalty, shoegaze-pop band Letting Up Despite Great Faults, and Kiven, who will be closing the show. Add to this Columbian transplants Il Abanico, Conveyor, whom we covered in our last print issue, the catchy jams of five-piece Modern Rivals and finally, Santah, coming from Chicago, and.. Staking their claim as a top contender among bands with names that are nearly a complete sentence, "Letting Up Despite Great Faults" have a number of quality songs to support such a noble sounding name - our favorite from their latest release are the dramatic "Stand Still" and the more minimalistic “Folding Under Stories Told” . The Los Angeles/Austin based electro-dream-pop band is about to release a new album entitled "Untogether" (scheduled for early October) and recently unveiled the first single "Visions" (streaming below), which nods the 80's era Cure of "In Between Days" by way of pace, chord progression and strumming, and through bass textures reminiscent of New Order's Peter Hook. Sugary sandpaper vocals share space alongside additional late-80's pop purveyors Echo & The Bunnymen, with a bit of modern-era "twee" (and fellow half-a-sentence named) Pains Of Being Pure At Heart style vocals on the bridge. - Dave Cromwell
