Rhode Island garage punkers, Gymshorts, are preparing for a showcase at this year's SXSW festival, bringing their loud, aggressive rock halfway across the country.  Familiar faces in Austin, the band's signature rasp has been heard by festival goers since 2015.  Raw and unfiltered, you can check out Gymshorts' organic, primordial punk rock at Hotel Vegas at Volstead on 3/18.  Hit the link below to hear their latest EP, Wet Willy.  -Brian Varneke

Our Best Emerging of NYC band or 2015, psych garage trio Acid Dad will be headlining Baby's All Right on Saturday 12.17 with two other gritty vintage sounding local bands, Gymshorts and Rips. Enjoy their tunes below, but if you want to experience their true brute sonic power (and irresistible sensual antics), don't miss them live!

With tracks like "Burrito" and "Browned Out," it's clear that slacker punks, GYMSHORTS, are not taking themselves all that seriously--but that's all part of the band's charm. With mellowed punk riffs, surf rock beats, riotous vocals, and a cheeky sense of humor, the group is kind of hard to not immediately fall in love with. Come February 27th, Dover Brickhouse will be heated up by three premium local New England Psych acts. Gymshorts grabbed the #3 slot in our end of year poll with their scuzzy Surf-Punk. They’re being joined by The Televibes and Randos, from Massachusetts and New Hampshire respectively. The Televibes have a bright punchy sound with absurd amounts of reverb and delay on the vocals. When they all start shouting the chorus of their tune “Washed Up” it makes your head spin in the best way. Our Year End Poll for Emerging New England Artists was - as usual - a painstaking (and somewhat excruciating) process, but we pulled it off with remarkable flair!

Heavy and earthy, Dark Rodeo applies a punk attitude and and song format to country lyrical themes and guitar tones. Congrats, guys!

Gym Shorts are threw some high-energy surf punk in our laps with last years record No Backsies. Check out their tune "Viberator" and take it to the slopes while we're waiting for the snow to melt. 

Nathan Ventura's back with a band, and released Pucker Up in February 2014. It's definitely a weird one. Check out Nathan's wild vocals and the band's experimental garage feel. Definitely some novel sounds on every track of Pucker Up. 

Honorable mention to Kid Mountain, for their killer free New Years Eve show in Brighton!

Here is how it all went down: first, we let the local bands submit their music (for free), and got our Deli editors to pick the nominees. Then we polled a list of 15+ New England scene experts (our jury) and asked them to nominate 3 more bands of their choice each. Then we polled our writers, then we polled our readers. We tried to keep things open for each single genre, from Indie Rock to Roots Music to Hip Hop.
