Golden Daze

Live Review: Golden Daze at Non Plus Ultra 2/27

Light reflected brilliantly from Jack Kilmer's wavering tremolo arm as Glimmer dipped into the Non Plus Ultra last Saturday. Oxford shoes, white kicks, and the cowboy hat that had loitered under the haze of cigarettes, drew into the swirl of stretched-out, torrid chords. The first intermission allowed a quick survey of the room: there was spilled beer and little space to move. The audience tripled in size as Golden Daze gave more than a taste of their narcotic, new self-titled debut, even revealing an unreleased track "Within" to closed eyes and mesmerized ears. The night was still young as FYF veteran and self-proclaimed "biggest trashcan" Evan Weiss (ex-Wires on Fire) stepped up with JUNK for some innocent, destructive fun.

You did miss out; but you can still catch Ben and Jacob next week as they support Fell Runner's March residency at the Bootleg, presented by KXLU. As always, check our Instagram @TheDeliLA for more pictures of the night. - Ryan Mo

You can stream the entire record on their official bandcamp page.

Los Angeles' Golden Daze release "Low", self-titled debut out February

The impending drop of Golden Daze is nigh — one month away, to be exact — as Ben Schwab and Jacob Loeb release another of their dreamy psych colorations: the second track to their self-titled debut, "Low". With its springy, slack-luster lyrics and overwashed, sand-blasted paisley, the song hovers somewhere between the birds and the pavement. Or, as the duo describes, "[like] our version of 'I Believe I Can Fly'."

Listen to "Low" by Golden Daze and pre-order their debut album, out February 19th via Autumn Tone with a release show at Non Plus Ultra on February 27th. - Ryan Mo, photo credit: Kai Hugo

Feel the warmth of "Salt", new single by Golden Daze

We're caught in the sun-drenched tape echoes of Golden Daze's new single "Salt", where murmurs of Brian Jonestown Massacre, Beach Fossils, and Days-era Real Estate are hitting us in the feels. Like, so hard. Songwriting duo Ben Schwab and Jacob Loeb — who have opened for acts like Jacco Gardner, Mild High Club, and Honeyblood — reveal their love for '60s guitar jangle and endless washes of drone in this dreampop banger.

Feel their warmth live on December 9th at The Satellite, where they'll play with Gothic Tropic and Waterstrider. Golden Daze's self-titled debut LP is set for release February 19 via Autumn Tone Records- Ryan Mo, Photo: Liza Mandelup
