LA's Open Submission Results for The Deli Magazine's Year End Poll, 2013

2013 was a year crowded with local talent. We are excited to begin announcing the results of our massive year end poll. Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word and give bands a chance to have their music heard by critics all over the country. After tallying the votes for the Open Submissions stage of our Los Angeles Year End Poll, it's time to release the results.
Please note that no editor was allowed to vote for bands in their own scene. The editors that voted on the LA scene were: Q.D. Tran (Deli Philadelphia), Brescia (Deli NYC Contributor) and Paolo De Gregorio (Deli NYC, Editor-In-Chief). In the coming weeks we will release the list of nominees chosen by our local "scene expert" jurors and it will be up to you to pick your favorite Emerging LA Artist of 2013.

The Electric Magpie The Spiral Electric and The Blank Tapes Play The Chapel TONIGHT

Come celebrate the holidaze with resident Bay Area psychedelic rockers, The Electric Magpie and The Spiral Electric tonight at The Chapel! They'll be opening for the dreamy beach-rock trio, The Black Tapes. Having evolved to a lineup of bass, primitive drums and guitar, this new instrumentation gives front man and founding member Matt Adams a new stripped down sound to explore. Songs like “Coast to Coast” and “Holly Roller” from this year’s release, Vacation benefits from this new approach, allowing the group’s endearing vocal harmonies to really shine.
Be sure to stop by The Chapel to check out this awesome line up tonight. -Ethan Varian
The Blank Tapes Announce Sophomore Album and US Tour

Matt Adams, the brainchild behind The Blank Tapes, is set to release his sophomore full length, Vacation, May 14 on Antenna Farm Records. The first single, “Coast to Coast,” is perfect for scratching your summertime itch: a laid-back, sparkling tune for breezing down the PCH with all your friends in tow. Culling from the classic sun-drenched Southern California songbook, Adams is carving out his own piece of this resurgent landscape. With Beach Boys-inspired harmonies and a splash of groovy psych/surf moments, this is a delightful pop tune that will leave a smile on your face and an unexplainable desire to drop everything just to dip your toes in the ocean. The Blank Tapes are currently on a nationwide tour that ends right here in LA with their record release show at The Satellite on May 31. - Jacqueline Caruso
Feeding People: January Monday Night Residency at The Echo

From the first notes of the melodic guitar riff on the single, “Island Universe,” to the moment frontwoman, Jessie Jones opens her mouth to intoxicate with her otherworldly voice, the magic of this young band, Feeding People, is undeniable. It’s so rare, I almost forget it’s possible to discover music so special it seems to harken from another world, age or galaxy. While it’s obvious the influences from which this four-piece is culling, they are successfully channeling the divine energy of the rock greats of the 60s in a way that excites passion instead of mere nostalgia. It’s no surprise they have quickly been picked up by LA-based Indie, Innovative Leisure, which boasts acts from Nosaj Thing to Nick Waterhouse. To our delight, they will be playing for free every Monday Night in January at the Echo. Each week is jammed packed with up and coming garage/psych-leaning bands like, Blackfeet Braves, Colleen Green, and The Blank Tapes. A vinyl LP is in the works, but in the meantime, give “Island Universe” a listen, and catch the fever. - Jacqueline Caruso
The Blank Tapes Return with "I'm Back"

We know what you’re thinking: New music without a synthesizer? Absurd! The Blank Tapes, a San Francisco/Los Angeles band, proves that old school rock is never out-of-date. Singer-songwriter and The Blank Tapes’ frontman, Matt Adams, has produced nine albums across the country, though he currently resides in San Francisco.
Think The Black Keys or Guided By Voices, but a little more psychedelic. Adams's nostalgic voice overlapped with a modern-sixties-like San Francisco sound will transcend you to familiarity though you may never have heard it before. Ever wonder what to play for the 8-hour drive along the scenic Hwy 1? Well this band should be added to that playlist.
Be sure to check out The Blank Tapes’ new album, I’m Back, out July 17 in advance of its live show at Amnesia in San Francisco on July 20.
