Animal Eyes

Animal Eyes are back with 'Where We Go'

Animals Eyes have made a glorious musical return with their first album since 2013's Ursus. With Where We Go, the band has reached one of their highest points musically as its songs pack a heavy emotional punch, supported by an elevated production. They've really come into their own with this one, which is why their album/vinyl release show at Mississippi Studios tomorrow is more than worth attending.

Their live set is captivating, and with Fauna Shade and Sama Dams, there will be much to enjoy. Tickets are $5 and music starts at 9pm so show up on time! Below is the first track to come off Where We Go, titled "Mushroom Hunter."

Preview: Shred of the Dead 2014

There's an unnecessary push to party sometimes. During certain holidays, people expect you to GET OUT THERE and UNLEASH THE BEAST. Well, now there's an appropriate reason to do both of those things at the very least this upcoming weekend.

Over the course of three significant nights, October 30th through November 1st, Buzzface presents have curated a festival destined to live up to its name: Shred of the Dead.

Beginning on Thursday, October 30th, Dante's will host Tango Alpha Tango, The Grizzled Mighty, Fox and the Law and Foxy Lemon. The costume contest begins. Attendees will have a rare chance to wear whatever they want inside a place with a couple of catwalks and listen to amazing, heavier sounds from the Pacific Northwest.

Halloween night, Minden, Animal Eyes, the Lower 48, Cambrian Explosion and Chrome Lakes will play Star Theater. This is where the costume contest ends.

November 1st, White Mystery, the Cry and Mister Tang close the entire event with one final rager at Bunk Bar.

A Farewell to Eidolons? Double EP Release at Mississippi 7.30

The sweetness of fleeting sound. The frantic grasp of ears from one measure to the next.

Alright, listen up, this one is important. Eidolons are taking over Mississippi Studios July 30th in what might indeed be their last show for an indefinite amount of time. Ian Wollman, their “beloved BASS player/friend/chinese scholar” is moving to China. As they say, go big or go to China. Well the band is certainly going big as they will use Wednesday night's show as a release party for their brand new double EP, The Big Yellow Shirt / Hard Hang in a Deep Country.  If this is a memorial for the band... let’s make it a monument.

Over the past six odd years, Eidolons have been engaging in collective sonic masonry, crafting their sound into the Frank Gehry of basement rock as evidenced by their most recent 2013 release, Skyhook. Frontperson, guitarist/vocalist Dan Byer’s crooning tenor sands and smooths the band’s oft jagged garage sounds whilst still making room for the occasional folk tinged slow-dance.

The band describes The Big Yellow Shirt / Hard Hang in a Deep Country, as having “some raucous tush-pushers on one side, some smooth gravy on the other.” Sounds delicious. The double EP is currently available for digital download through their Bandcamp page on a pay-what-you-want basis, but physical CDs and cassettes will be available at Wednesday night's show.

Eidolons will be sharing the night with buddy bands, Animal Eyes and Talkative who are stellar experimental, noisy space punkers with enough energy for all. They’ll play how they feel while you feel how they play.

9:00 Talkative
10:00 Animal Eyes
11:00 Eidolons
$5 / 21+

Just Lions Release 'Great. Okay.'

There are good and bad ways to start the summer. Just Lions have chosen the good route with the release of their new EP, Great. Okay. which they will celebrate with a free show this Monday night, 6.30, at Mississippi Studios. The three-piece band, known for it’s pop rock energy and jazz tendencies, latest work hits these core characteristics while expanding into a deeper core of their sound.

The EP begins with the title track and immediately hits you with sweet whistling and a catchy rhythm that makes for easy listening. This song brings a radio friendly presence to the album, which was even aired on 94.7 FM (Clear Channel's New Rock/Alt radio station) earlier this month. Next, the band drifts into a jazzy atmosphere that is very prevalent during their live performances. Relying on guitar work and jazz scales, “Everything Goes Away” remains a very free flowing song that is slightly reminiscent of something by Jack Johnson (you know, if Jack Johnson was cool and rocked a little harder). The closing track is the heaviest. “On the Road” is much more than a track with the same name as the iconic book by Kerouac. Opening guitar riffs unleash into a fury while the harmonious vocals smooth things over. This song ends with an exploding, bluesy guitar solo that only makes you wonder what this band has in store for the future.

Although this EP is short with only three songs, the release show Monday night will be packed with good music. Jammy psych-heads Bear & Moose open the night, followed by fellow jammy psych-heads Animal Eyes, and Just Lions close out the night, where you will be able to see what Great. Okay. is all about and much more.
